Miguel Cotto was ask during an interview if his afraid of Floyd Mayweather will bring during their much awaited encounter on May 5th. And he said, “Absolutely nothing, I am prepared, very prepared.”.

“I have worked very hard for several weeks in the gym to get this victory“. Cotto added.

Cotto is fighting Floyd at 154 pounds, where he is the reigning title holder. It’s going to fight Cotto all the way up at 154. Cotto was asked how much of an advantage he think that that is for him. Mayweather accepted the fight at your weight because he wanted you to be comfortable.

“First of all, I give thanks to him for making the fight in my weight. If he wants my title, he has to fight in my weight, and he does it in the correct way. It’s my weight class. I feel comfortable in here. I’m feeling pretty strong, really happy to get this fight in my weight class, and I just prepared myself well enough for victory“.

He also ask about What kind of difference does it make to have Pedro Diaz in his corner? Because Cotto had a couple of trainers recently, but what kind of difference does Pedro make for him?

“Pedro-a lot of people will know Pedro because he was head trainer, a coach for the Cuban team. Everybody knows their achievement of the Cuban boxer in the amateur weight. Pedro was the guy in charge of the Cuban team, and he got out of Cuba in 2000, I think. Right after I broke up with my first trainer, we decided to talk to him. But he doesn’t want to join us because he doesn’t feel himself prepared enough for professional boxing yet. “

“He said to me, I’m not here to give to you new things. You are a veteran fighter, and I’m just here to take things you put in your sight back in the game. That’s the main purpose of Pedro in my corner to make me feel like the Miguel of the beginning, and make me feel like the Miguel that basically you saw with Mosley. “I’m just happy to be training for May 5th, and I’m going to put forward my best effort in Las Vegas. I have been training since February 13th and I’m still working up to May 5th until I get the victory. That is going to happen on May 5th.”

Cotto chose to fight Mayweather at the junior middleweight division, instead of taking a rematch against Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao at welterweight.

Mayweather Sr. said that by taking the fight, Cotto showed he was not afraid of his son.

“Here’s the thing about Pacquiao, he’s scared,” Mayweather Sr. told Boxing Scene. “Cotto is not.”

He added that he is expecting a good fight between Cotto, the reigning WBA junior middleweight champion, and his son.

“I think it’s going to be a good fight,” Mayweather Sr. said. “I don’t think the weight is going to be an issue. You see Pacquiao is a small guy, so he’s going to try to get Cotto to come down as much as possible.”

“In terms of skill, I have to go with my son to beat Cotto, but anything can happen in that fight,” he added.

Mayweather Sr. also commented on the collapse of the negotiations between the Pacquiao and Mayweather camps, saying that the Filipino boxer was only making excuses.

“That whole thing with Floyd Jr. rejecting the 50-50 split was just their excuse to avoid the fight. Pacquiao knows the day he fights Floyd is the day his career is over,” he said. Mayweather-Cotto fight will ne on May 5, at MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

“I think Lil’ Floyd brings quite a bit of stuff to the table that Cotto ain’t seen before,” Floyd Sr. said in Boxing Scene. “Cotto ain’t seen people feint him. Cotto’s never seen this kind of fight.”

Floyd Jr. has agreed to challenge Cotto for the WBA junior middleweight title on May 5 after his mega-bout against Manny Pacquiao didn’t work out.

Floyd Sr. said Cotto developed to a more intelligent boxer since the Puerto Rican’s technical knockout loss to Pacquiao in 2009.

He cited that Cotto fought smart during his rematch against Mexican banger Antonio Margarito.

“He was smart, he was sharp; he fought with speed and knowledge,” Floyd Sr. said. “He fought a very, very smart fight for the particular fighter he was fighting.

But he believes Cotto will be deceived by Floyd’s Jr.’s fighting style.

“I know Cotto’s seen Lil’ Floyd fight, but Cotto has never seen the style that Floyd Mayweather Jr fights. The style is deceiving and most guys think it’s easy when they see Floyd. They think it’s easy but most of them get the same thing,” said the former boxer.

The controversial Floyd Jr. has an immaculate record of 42-0, while Cotto has 37 wins against two career losses. The Mayweather vs Cotto fight will happen on May 5 at the MGM Grand garden in Las Vegas.

Alvarez, the undefeated World Boxing Council junior middleweight champion, was also being considered for a May 5 fight date against Mayweather.

But Mayweather eventually chose to fight Cotto instead, saying that “Canelo” was still too young and experienced to fight him.

In an interview with Boxing Scene, Alvarez said Mayweather “chose to fight with Cotto, because he believes that (Cotto) has less speed, moves a lot less.”

Alvarez added that Mayweather may think that Cotto “hasn’t been the same fighter as he was in the past.”

Cotto holds the World Boxing Association’s junior middleweight title and is coming off a career-defining victory against Antonio Margarito last December.

Alvarez is set to fight former world champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley in the co-feature during the pay-per-view. He said in a previous report that he has been promised a shot at the winner of the main event bout.

The NYC commission heard testimony from the commission eye specialist, a doctor from its medical advisory board and two doctors who support Margarito’s application, including his eye surgeon. Margarito established a big cataract in his eye because of the blows he took from Pacquiao and eventually had to force an operation.
