Trainer Robert Garcia sent Antonio Margarito through the wringer as the Mexican fighter traded bombs for a total of six rounds—three with his sparring partner in his training camp. Margarito will collide with Cotto this coming December. Margarito training is right on track according to Garcia. Since kicking off with the sparring sessions exactly a week ago yesterday, Margarito has still a hundred or so short of the usual target of 130-plus rounds by the time he and his team motor to New York during the week leading to his Dec. 3 clash with Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico. Margarito spars and will do just that possibly until a week or even five days before the 12-round junior middleweight match at the Madison Square. Garcia who visited Margarito training camp last week that there’ll be plenty of sparring rounds and more hard work that will come to the Tijuana native way as they enter the third week of preparation.
Margarito began his intensive training although he had worked out a sweat twice in his own training camp. Team Margarito will stay in training camp, as the boxer and his entourage motor down to New York. Miguel Cotto, meanwhile, is also neck-deep in training at the Fight Factory in Tampa, Florida. Cotto’s preparation is being closely monitored by head trainer Joe Santiago and conditioning coach Phil Landman, who had earlier joined hands in the pre-conditioning of the shaven-skulled banger in Puerto Rico as early as October. Cotto is eyeing a revenge against Margarito this time.
People think that size will make the difference. Anyway the Cotto vs Margarito fight will be in the catchweight of 153 pounds. It`s not the same thing here. Antonio can put quality weight on, without losing speed and stamina. Many of us also saw Cotto as not the same fighter in his last 2 bouts, but seems like some of you want to forget that, and maybe hope that the Cotto that fought Mosley would return. I don`t believe that So, if you ask me, I think it will be a boring, one sided match. Margarito scoring by 2 punch combos, running out quick and coming back when Cotto would not expect. I believe the match will end due Cotto injuries, before round 11.
